Get to Know Our 5-Step Cover Design Process
See our 5-step recipe to success and how we used it to design the cover for Lost in Beirut by Ashe and Magdalena Stevens
STEP 1: Fill in Our Design Brief Form
Our design brief form boils down the essence of your book into a concentrated form. Our cover designers extract key visual elements and bring your book to life.
It gives us the information we need to create a successful book cover and helps you understand the project on a deeper level. We will also read your manuscript to pinpoint elements that might shape the cover concept.
STEP 2: Team Brainstorming
Working with us means having an entire design team at your disposal. Using the brief you submitted, our creative director brainstorms with team members to build visual concepts that encapsulate your book.
We may engage more than one designer to ensure your project gets gourmet-level art direction, typesetting and illustration.
This stage may include an online meeting with our team, or a call, if needed.
STEP 3: Different Design Proposals
10 working days after you submitted the design brief form, you’ll be presented with 3-4 different design proposals based on the most compelling concepts we came up with.
During this process, you enjoy our versatile range of in-house visual capabilities; original illustration, photography, 3D imagery, and hand lettering. We may also blend a number of licensed stock images and royalty-free stock photos to recreate new photography-based imagery.
STEP 4: Design Development
We refine your preferred design. This stage usually takes 3 major revision rounds of 5 working days. This is where we collaborate with you to take a great cover design and turn it into the perfect one for your book.
We’re so adamant about getting this exactly right that you get unlimited revision rounds until you’ve got a cover you’ll be proud to distribute.
STEP 5: File Delivery & Production
After you sign off on the design, we provide you with a link to your upload-ready files. You can also download the source files for safe keeping and any future requirements..
With us, you have built-in production consultancy included in the service. Our team will help you with any questions or problems you experience during the production process until your book is launched!

Premium Designs. Exclusive Artwork.
You’ve put so much work into crafting your book. How it appears on store shelves deserves that same level of creativity and personalization that you just can’t get from a template.
As you can see from our design process above, every design that comes out of the Coverkitchen is built from scratch in collaboration with you.
Creativity that tells the story in your book
Whether it’s through literal representation or subtle metaphors, your cover design tells a story before readers have seen a single page.
It’s the only chance for your book to make a first impression. It has a matter of seconds to convince readers to take a closer look — to check the back cover, then take a look inside.
Whether you’re working with a premium publisher or a limited self-publishing service, we design covers that tell a story and make people want to know more.
Smooth & Efficient Workflow
There’s a lot of work and communication that goes into crafting the perfect book cover design. So, keeping this process clean and efficient is key.
Once the design process begins, you’ll gain access to our collaboration platform. Here, you’ll have access to all conversation threads, design concepts and additional info in one place.
