MEMOIR BOOK COVERS

Memoirs, biographies and autobiographies are hot these days, often ranking high on nonfiction bestseller lists. Readers are intrigued by the vastness of humanity's stories.

You need not be famous or rack up accomplishments to tell a great story. Best-selling memoirs reflect everyday people confronting extraordinary situations such as war, social upheaval and personal struggle.

The many subgenres of this genre often contain crossover themes. Lost love can inspire both physical and spiritual journeys, whereas a childhood struggle or poverty can end in greatness and wealth.

Memoirs express truthful and impactful moments in the author’s life, whereas autobiographies are historical retellings of a complete life. Biographies are third-person accounts told by someone other than the subject. All three are popular genres though, like any book of any genre, depend upon professional book cover design.

Book covers represent your memoir's most critical and lasting marketing tool. You need an experienced design team to help your book stand out from the millions of other memoirs, autobiographies and biographies published each year. Your memoir book cover distinguishes your work from countless others filling bookstore displays and book-selling websites. Your beautiful and unique book cover grabs attention and generates sales. Coverkitchen cooks up visually stunning covers worthy of the hours you spend writing and the work you put into your memoir.

Your book cover conveys genre and narrative, utilizing a harmonious balance of type, image and color. When approaching Coverkitchen for your memoir book cover, have your family or other personal photos available to inspire and create unique covers

Examples of our memoir book cover designs

We’re proud to show off the work we’ve created in the Coverkitchen: here are three examples of actual memoir book cover designs we’ve produced:

Aftermath

In this striking minimal design, the knife cut stands out, drawing you in. This memoir retells the story of a young man stricken with cancer and then addiction who robs a pharmacy brandishing a knife. The book was secretly written while serving time in New Jersey and the cover design not only echoes the weapon used during the crime but indicates the line dividing the author’s life before and after his full pardon from prison. The back cover has no text but the cut now appears healed, conveying the inspiring journey between the covers.

Singapore Mutiny

Singapore Mutiny retells a WW1-era uprising in colonial Singapore on Chinese New Year in 1915 by 850 Indian soldiers ending with the deaths of 47 British soldiers and local civilians, and the executions and imprisonment of many of the perpetrators. Written by Edwin and Mary for their daughter Barbara in 1925, this important first-hand historical document was transcribed for the first time and published 100 years after the original events.

Coverkitchen digitally restored and color-tinted photographs supplied by the Brown family and created a narrative collage over the front and back covers. The back cover material includes quotes from the Browns and a brief but arresting description of the events within.

El Director

David Jiménez penned this bestseller about his time helming El Mundo, Spain’s second-largest newspaper.  He recounts the battles he waged to keep the paper independent of political and other outside forces. The Coverkitchen chefs used actual El Mundo pages to create the threatening mask that dominates an otherwise spartan cover, save for the unimposing title, author, and blurb text.
