PHOTOGRAPHY BOOK COVER DESIGN
Great book cover photography evokes personal and authentic moments that connect emotionally. A powerful photo can speak volumes and generate buzz, rendering narrative, personality, and genre and bringing you into the picture.
Our chefs are masters at photo editing and manipulation. Digital retouching, compositing (photomontage), and other editing magic transform single or multiple images into striking book covers that distinguish your hard work in bookstores and on book-selling websites and platforms.
Coverkitchen teams with independent authors and publishing companies, creating stunning and memorable book covers. Nothing represents your book like its cover: it’s a critical marketing and branding tool. You need an experienced and talented design team to render your ideas and vision into a unique and original design that attracts attention and generates sales!
Photography and digital editing open a range of compelling options
Between the realism that professional photography brings and the range of digital editing options available, this opens up some many fresh and interesting design options. From hyper-realistic depictions on a fantasy book cover to the sobering reality of a memoir or the glimpse of an alien planet in your sci-fi cover, the results can be stunning.
Composites
Photo manipulation using composites allows our designers to blend images and create memorable narratives. For Everything is Normal: The Life and Times of a Soviet Kid, by Sergey Grechishkin, we started with an original boyhood photo supplied by the author — Heavily Cold War reminiscent — and restored the image to crisp black and white. The young, innocent Grechishkin was then isolated, removing a toy grasped between his hands and replacing it with an AK-47, the iconic Soviet submachine gun. This image touches on so many visceral layers and is difficult to ignore or forget.
Creative editing and digital effects
Our designers use digital photo editing and effects to render authentic moments from any place and time. For Ryūnosuke Akutagawa’s Japanese classic, Rashōmon and Other Stories, we created an image informed by Akira Kurosawa's international success Rashomon.
After studying Kurosawa’s movie for visual inspiration, we sourced historical photographs detailing actual samurai, clothing, hairstyles, etc., and a wooded scene for texture and palette to create this single haunting image.
For Kim Stanley Robinson’s Iconic Marte Trilogy (Mars Trilogy) our team created photorealistic images detailing Mars inhospitable environment and the futuristic spacesuit and gear.
