Sell more copies with an outstanding book cover illustration

Writing and publishing a book certainly isn’t an easy process, especially since we live in a time where the competition is relentless. So after putting in lots of time and hard work to reach the finish line, you’ll want to give your book the best chances on the market.

One of the best ways to get more eyes on your book is to invest in a professional book cover. It’ll give you the foundation to better market your novel and boost your sales. The bottom line is that your book’s illustrated design is the first impression with your potential readers – so make sure it draws attention and conveys your story.

Book cover illustration: Not just for children’s books

While children's books often involve illustrations, that doesn't mean they’re exclusive to that specific genre. There are plenty of stunning illustrations for adult novels, some of which we show below. These book covers are targeted at adults, showing the impact visual storytelling has on all ages.

Illustrations are limited only by your imagination

With the freedom of illustration, book covers can involve whatever you can think of. An illustrator can create anything from simplistic to complex and abstract designs. We can take the book cover to a whole new level when not limited to photography and design applications. If we can draw it on paper, we can create it as a unique and exciting book cover design.

Unique cover designs built from scratch

Working with creatives and artists means you get something much better than a generic template. At Coverkitchen, we’re creative professionals who take pride in visual storytelling. We put our hearts and souls into every project so that you get an illustrated book cover that captures the essence of your book.

Our illustrations come in various styles, all depending on genre and the vision you have. Using both hand and computer-based techniques for different designs gives us the flexibility to deliver what you need. That means you’ll get a distinctive cover, whether it’s minimalistic and graphic or complex and realistic.

Our simple 3 stage design process

Working with an illustrated book cover designer should be straightforward. With our team guiding you through our three stages of the design process, you don’t need any prior experience in book publishing.

Pre-design

Start with selecting a service or a package, then fill in our design brief form. The brief is there to help our team understand your book and meet your requirements so that you’ll get a book cover you love.

Design

Time for the exciting stuff – the design and style proposals. Around ten days after receiving the design brief, you’ll select a design from three different approaches with solid concepts, suitable image styles, and art direction from our in-house design team.

We typically do two to three rounds of revisions, allowing for ten days between each. However, if we still haven’t hit the mark, we’ll keep going until the design has your stamp of approval.

Production process

At this stage, it’s time for the final sign-off and handover. Your illustrated book cover is ready for publishing! After delivering the files, our team will help you with any questions or concerns during the uploading process.

A simple, fixed price — no hidden costs or surprises

We have an excellent way of keeping things simple and transparent. That extends to our pricing structure as well.

  • For authors, our book cover designs start at USD 800. Take a look at our Services for Authors page for more information.

  • The only exception is if you decide on a total overhaul of the design after accepting the first proposal. At that point, if additional costs are required, we’ll discuss them with you before continuing.

  • We request 30% payment upfront and 70% on completion.

  • If you’re a publisher, please complete the Services for Publishers page form to receive a quote.

Unlimited revisions – get the perfect design every time

After spending so much time on writing your book, you shouldn’t settle for a cover that’s just ‘good enough’. Working with us means you can request as many revisions as you like throughout the process, as long as it doesn’t involve significant changes after accepting the first proposal.

Three rounds of collaboration to keep you involved

We collaborate with you to ensure we’re on the same page, so your cover turns out how you’ve envisioned it. That means we keep you engaged from day one until we’ve completed the project.

Round 1: We’ll give you three proposals with different concepts and style approaches so you can choose your favorite.

Round 2: We go back to the drawing table and present you with a new design based on your selection and feedback.

Round 3: We do the final touches to get your book cover looking perfect.

What we need from you to get started on your illustrated design

Before we can kick off the project, we’ll need a few details from you. Our design brief form is intuitive and will guide you through the process, so you don’t need any previous experience in book publishing.

  • Book details and specifications

  • Title. Our team needs to know if the book title isn’t finalized yet (this detail can have a crucial impact on the concept and composition).

  • Trim sizes. Like a painting canvas, we need to know the trim size before starting the design. Our team will be happy to guide you if you’re unsure about the size.

  • Cover texts. We need to know about the subtitle, author name, and other text elements you want on the cover.

  • The core content of your book. That includes the synopsis, key excerpts, main characters, and essential themes – information to help our team understand what your book is all about.

  • Marketing approach. We need to know about the target audience and main selling points to be reflected on the cover, making sure it draws attention to the right crowd.
