A world of fantasy and magic, villainy and heroism, and stories that enchant children and adults alike, this classic collection contains the stories of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, German storytellers whose fairy tales have been the inspiration for film, television, and literature for nearly two centuries. Published by Storytel as an audiobook series, this grownup collection includes 10 popular classics including Hansel and Gretel, The Singing Bone, The Story of a Boy Who Went Forth to Learn Fear, Rapunzel, Godfather Death, The Robber Bridegroom, Fitcher’s Bird, The Gifts of the Little People, The Girl Without Hands, and Little Red Riding Hood. Each are bloodier-than-ever versions of the classic Grimm fairytales; closer to the original texts.
While the tone of voice is that of a classic tale, with an omniscient narrator, not every ending is that of a happy one. The publisher wanted to position the series' cover designs in the realm of dark fantasy in the tradition of Neil Gaiman, which called for a new recipe to cancel out the classic fairytale innocence. To emphasise the collection's gothic history and gloomy mood, our cover cooks created illustrations of one iconic visual element that boils down each story, all seasoned with hand-drawn lettering for the title of the series.
