This two-part family saga published in English and French features Édith et Romain, set from 1914 to 1940, and Germain et Raphaël, set during 1940 to 1975. The story begins when Germain Crèvecœur, one of the greatest women's shoe designers of the 20th century, is found hanged. He bequeathed to a son he had never met a house with walls covered with women's shoes and hidden rooms that harbored letters in which the deceased reveals his most terrible secrets.
To connect both book cover designs, our cover cooks used a weeping beech, a recurrent landmark in key scenes throughout the saga, as the binding ingredient. Its shape resembling an intricate family tree from which tokens of narrative sprout: family secrets, the war and women’s shoes as a feminine relish.
The spine and back cover design are also embellished by a family emblem specifically designed for the series; redolent of the letters secreted away in the Crèvecœur’s house and hinting to the poetic yet mysterious atmosphere of the book.
