Three widows with vastly different backgrounds meet randomly in a mourning group. They all stand in a vulnerable place in life and need a fresh start - so why not start an alternative funeral business? Betty, 51, has two children, works in a deli, suffers from the symptoms of menopause and an extreme fear of death. On top of that, she is as poor as dirt since her deceased husband left her with a large debt. The former pastor Viveca, 42, apparently despises everything and everyone, but has a sharp sense of humor and an even sharper brain. Eva at 74 is the trio's mother figure, who with wisdom and warmth can overcome most obstacles. On the other hand, she cannot quite keep track of how many grandchildren she has. The widows name the business ‘Death with Glow’ with the intention of sprucing up the ancient funeral rituals. But it does not go uncomplicated: the three widows have absolutely no experience in the funeral industry, and they each have dark secrets that threaten to come to the surface.

For the design recipe of this quirky story about grief, hope and unexpected friendship, our cover cooks concocted a 2D illustration of a black hearse with brightly colored balloons and confetti trailing in its tailwind. Appearing in three different colors - one for each of the widows - the playful confetti, as well as the whimsical balloons and teal blue background season the cover with a taste of warmth and humor.
