Humor

The 45th President of the United States is a controversial and divisive character. His quotes and tweets range from nonsensical to provocative to hateful, and they deserve a closer look. Since Trump is skillful at sinning yet passionately supported by evangelicals, his comments beg to be categorized by the Seven Deadly Sins, also known as The Cardinal Sins. Because Trump craves public attention and believes he is a great thinker, there is a logical imperative to compare his words to people who actually were great thinkers. As a result of his obsession with trying to receive a Nobel Prize, it seemed only right to juxtapose his words to actual winners. And due to the shallowness of Trump’s thinking and the ridiculousness of his comments, his body of work insists on parodic treatment.

The cover design uses an ironic photomontage where the head of Trump is superimposed on a classic toga-wearing marble bust reminiscent of great thinkers and state-men statues. A clown nose was additionally superimposed, in case it was unclear he is a clown. The typography imitates the writing style of a Sharpie marker, one of Trump’s favorite implements that rose to fame after he used it to clumsily doctorate a weather map to match his clueless claims about the path of a hurricane. The use of mustard yellow also sets the playful and comical tone of the book.
