Debut novel of Eleri Grace and finalist in the 2019 National Reader's Choice Awards for Best First Book and Best Historical Romance, Courage to be Counted follows Vivian Lambert who in the fall of 1942 wins a coveted overseas assignment as a recreation staff worker with the Red Cross. Falling in love with sexy pilot Jack Nielson before she ships out wasn’t part of her plan. B-17 bomber pilot and commander of a ten-man crew, Jack is desperate to avenge the death of his best friend and do his patriotic duty. Keeping himself and his men alive in the fire-filled skies over Europe will require Jack’s full focus, and romancing a beautiful, headstrong Red Cross Girl is a distraction he knows he shouldn’t indulge. While Vivian's work takes her across France and into the heart of Nazi Germany, mounting casualties drive Jack to confront his dwindling odds of survival. As Allied forces converge on all fronts, Vivian and Jack's relationship is tested by an excruciating battle between love and duty.
For the cover design, the author requested a portrait of the heroine, Vivian, clad in a formal Red Cross uniform standing proudly next to a Clubmobile. Given the eminent female target reader, our cover cooks created a historical romance visual concept based on illustration and a typographic style reminiscent of 1930s advertising posters. This design concept was also carried over to the next installment in the Clubmobile Girls Series, Carry a Crusading Spirit, set in the Pacific Ocean theater.
