Spanning the course of one night, Un Cuervo Viejo follows a group of friends in Arroyo de la Miel in southern Spain, where a chain of events is triggered when they find their buddy, 'The Martinelli', half naked and handcuffed to a street lamp shouting “The Garbage” is coming for him. They spend the night fleeing from this invisible enemy through philosophical, existential and sometimes comical conversations, until ultimately realizing that the real issue at hand is their contempt for modern society and the only solution is to look for transcendence. Situations in the novel flutter from dark and bitter to humorous and sarcastic, with confrontational dialogues taking an often hateful or absurd tone.
Both the title and cover design hint towards an extract from the book: “Crows, when they are young, eat all kinds of garbage and love it. Older crows, on the other hand, don't eat garbage because they've had enough, they're much more selective. And they watch. Did you know that? Old crows watch young crows eat garbage. It's just like us.”
Taking a more realistic approach, our cover cooks created a hand-drawn half-man half-crow covered in scribbled lettering to mirror the irreverent, blatant style of the book. The iconic crow head is also featured as an interior ornament on each of the chapter title pages.
